Q
Why should I use a filtered internet service? |
A
You should use a filtered internet service if you are concerned about your children, family members or employees accessing sites featuring content such as pornography, bomb-building, witchcraft, extreme violence and other objectionable material. Many children inadvertently stumble on to sites such as these by misspelling addresses and through spam email messages. FreedomISP’s state-of-the-art filtering provides parents with peace of mind while their children are accessing the internet. Although no filter is perfect and cannot substitute for a parent’s vigilance, FreedomISP can help parents limit the potentially harmful information on the internet from reaching their children. |

Q
With all of the new web sites, can your filters keep up? |
A
FreedomISP uses one of the most mature and aggressive filtering systems developed. It is a server-side filter system that requires no software on the user's computer. The filtering system operates on FreedomISP's Linux high-speed servers that update the filter database daily. This is essential since numerous new pornographic, violence and hate sites appear each day. |
Q
How does your filter work? |
A
Recognizing that many of today's computer-savvy teens and even young children can disable a locally installed filter system in short order, FreedomISP offers a "forced" system that cannot be disabled by a user.
Subscribers wishing to take advantage of the filtration technology on a search-by-search basis can select the "unforced" option. This provides all the benefits of the technology when you want it, but it allows you to disable the filter when needed; for example, you can disable it when you are engaged in academic, medical, or other research.

Q
What if the filter makes a mistake? |
A
Sometimes a site will be blocked that should not be blocked, and sometimes a site might get through that should have been blocked. Let us know! Please e-mail us with the problem URL at: filter@freedomisp.net.
We will respond as quickly as possible. Should a site be blocked erroneously, we will try to respond and correct the problem within hours, or we will try to correct it at least within the same day. If you feel a site should be blocked that is not, we will examine it for a special review, and then we will place it in the blocked database if it is found to violate the criteria.

Q
How much does this slow down Web access? |
A
Surprise! One of the unique features of the FreedomISP filter is that it actually speeds up access! The FreedomISP filter servers are "caching servers" with tremendous amounts of memory. When a FreedomISP member accesses a Web site, it is not only displayed on the user's computer, but it is stored in memory on the filter server. When the next FreedomISP member requests the same site, the server can instantly respond with the information without going back to the original source. On the average, this greatly increases the access time to typical Web sites. |

I already have an ISP, so can I just use your filter? |
A
Yes! Even though we would love to have you as a full FreedomISP member, you can still use the FreedomISP filter for a minimal monthly cost of only $6.95. |
